The Harrison Butler Association

Contact Membership

The Harrison Butler Association, which has members all over the world, is dedicated to yachts designed by Dr. Thomas Harrison Butler.  Full membership is available to owners or past owners of authentic boats and associate membership open to anyone with an interest in THB's designs.  Each year there is a Fitting-out Lunch and AGM in the early spring, a Laying-up Supper in September and informal meets throughout the year.  The Year Book, as well as listing members’ names and addresses, lists the names, owners and home ports of all the HB boats known to the Association as well as containing  reports of meetings and articles contributed by members.

Thomas Harrison Butler (19 March 1871 – 29 January 1945) was a British ophthalmologist and amateur boat designer. He published various designs of small, traditionally built yachts and took particular pains to produce designs that were well-balanced under sail.

The Association was formed in December 1973 with THB’s daughter Joan Jardine Brown as President.  Her death in 2011 was a severe blow to the Association but with the support of THB’s family the Association is going from strength to strength taking advantage of modern methods of communication and has a comprehensive website with details of boats, designs, events and other information at:
